Maldives exports increase by 51 percent

The total exported goods from the Maldives increased by 51 percent in March 2023, according to Maldives Customs Service.

In their most recent statistical update, Customs revealed that the Maldives exported MVR 344 million worth of goods during the review month.

Imports to the Maldives, including fuel, recorded a 10 percent increase worth MVR 4.3 billion, while imports excluding fuel rose by 14 percent, equivalent to MVR 3.6 billion.

Major Importing Categories

1. Food items (excluding pork, alcohol, tobacco): MVR 924 million

2. Fuel (marine gas oil (diesel), petrol, aviation gas): MVR 706 million

3. Machinery and mechanical appliance: MVR 596 million

4. Vessels, aircraft and parts thereof: MVR 435 million

5. Base metal and articles of base metal: MVR 328 million

Major Importing Countries

1. UAE: MVR 753 million

2. India: MVR 696 million

3. Oman: MVR 467 million

4. Singapore: MVR 408 million

5. China: MVR 357 million

Major Exported Categories

1. Skipjack tuna (stripe-bellied bonito; frozen): MVR 224 million

2. Skipjack tuna (prepared or preserved): MVR 54 million

3. Yellowfin tuna chunk (fresh or chilled): MVR 11 million

4. Yellowfin tuna (fresh or chilled): MVR 10 million

5. Yellowfin tuna loins (frozen): MVR 9 million

Major Exported Countries

1. Thailand: MVR 225 million

2. UK: MVR 31 million

3. France: MVR 41 million

4. Italy: MVR 9 million

5. Turkiye: MVR 8 million

During the review month, Maldives Customs recorded a 3 percent increase in revenue, amounting to MVR 330 million, while royalties collected during this period stood at MVR 14 million.

The authority further reported one vessel arrival and 13 vessel departures in March 2023.
